Accused of affiliated company supplying TSMC chips to Huawei, Bitmain: The incident has no connection with the company
According to two informed sources cited by Reuters on the 26th, TSMC has suspended shipments to Chinese chip developer Sophgo after discovering that Huawei's AI processors use chips produced by TSMC.
Insiders revealed that the chips ordered by Suan Neng Technology from TSMC match the chips found on Huawei's Ascend 910B processor. In order to protect US national security, Huawei has been restricted from purchasing this technology product. Reuters cannot determine how the chip was ultimately installed on Huawei products.
The US Department of Commerce stated that it is aware of reports of possible violations of US export controls, but cannot comment on whether any investigation is underway.
In a statement released on the 27th, Computing Technology stated that it complies with applicable legal norms. The investigation by the US Department of Commerce into the possible association between TSMC and Huawei is unrelated to Computing Technology and its products, and the company has never had any business relationship with Huawei. In addition, Computing Technology stated that it has provided TSMC with a detailed investigation report to prove that this incident is unrelated to Computing.
According to reports, Suaneng Technology is affiliated with Bitmain, a large mining machine manufacturer. However, in a statement released today, Bitmain stated that it focuses on the cryptocurrency mining machine business and has no connection to the supply investigation incident mentioned above.
